Hi Debra, I have an Angel Care monitor for my baby which requires you to place a hard surface under the mattress, then place the monitor and then the mattress.http://www.angelcare-monitor.com/United-States/en/products/angelcare-monitor-AC1100

They suggest using Masonite or particle board.

I am concerned about the toxins and have had a hard time finding something to use.

Would this plywood from Columbia Forest using Pure Bond technology be safe? http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-203552993/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=PureBond&storeId=10051#.UHtWaWt5mSM

Thank you soo much!

Debra's Answer:

Either the Masonite or the PureBond would be fine. Masonite is held together with pressurized steam, PureBond is formaldehyde-free.

But baby monitors have high EMFs, so I would suggest you reconsider using this at all.

I just looked the the link for the PureBond and noticed that it has a Proposition 65  warning.

COMMENT FROM DEBRA:

The Proposition 65 notice for wood products is as follows:

WARNING: Drilling, sawing, sanding or machining wood products generates wood dust, a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer. Use a respirator or other safeguards to avoid inhaling wood dust.

There is no dnager to this product beyond the dust produced when sawing.>/p>

Are there any baby monitors that are safe?

COMMENT FROM DEBRA:

Not to my knowledge.

That baby monitor can actually mess with your neighbors as well - EMF's travel.   Your baby will be safer without the monitor.

Funny, I was just going to ask about a similar product.  It's this:  http://www.amazon.com/Snuza-Halo-Baby-Movement-Monitor/dp/B002ITOC7S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1350845333&sr=8-2&keywords=baby+movement+monitor

It is a movement monitor that snaps directly onto your baby's diaper and is battery operated.  There is no electricity or handset involved and it has consistently very high ratings.  It is a one piece item that simply sounds an alarm and/or vibrates if your baby stops breathing for a certain amount of time.  Are there EMFs from battery operated products?  I'm thinking EMFs are just from electrical items.

COMMENT FROM DEBRA:

It's not about batteries. I's the wireless technology that emits the EMFs, not the batteries.

Thank you so much, Debra, for your last comment about the monitor

emitting EMF...I've read that in so many places now! Why isn't this news getting out through pediatricians?

I agree with Debra, baby monitors have high EMFs that you are putting into your little one no matter what the range of distance.  I was so thankful to hear about this on the radio from a 30 yr. plus nutritional Dr. so it spared my new baby girl from having to endure it for long (myself also as it was messing with my nervous system) once I found out.  Some helpful resource are on electricsense.com
