I bought an ice-cream maker with an aluminum bowl, since I read that you had one also, and did not worry about aluminum leaching into the ice-cream. However, I read that a lot of the aluminum bowls have a Teflon-like coating. I contacted Cuisinart and was told that, "The ice cream bowl is aluminum coated with Xylan (polypropylene) non-stick." Needless to say, I stopped using it until I find out more about this coating. I have two small children and am pregnant as well. Just wondering what you know or think/recommend regarding this coating on the aluminum bowl. Thanks so much!
Your description is confusing. Xylan® Coatings are a family of fluoropolymer coatings that, like Teflon, contain PTFE. Polypropylene is a plastic that is pretty nontoxic. So I don't know which it is. Call Cuisinart again and find out.
