You probably already know and may have experienced the symptoms of acid reflux:
* that burning sensation that moves up from your stomack to your chest and throat, known as "heartburn" or "acid indigestion"
* acid backing up into your throat or mouth, known as "regurgitation"
* all the stomach discomforts--including burping, nausea after eating, stomach fullness or bloating, upper abdominal pain and discomfort--collectively called "dyspepsia."
It's important to pay attention to these these symptoms of acid reflux because they are indicators your digestion system is not working properly and a sign of deeper health issues. Do not ignore acid reflux!
Acid reflux is essentially the backup of stomach acid into your esophagus. The general thought is that there is “too much acid” in the stomach and this gets refluxed or backed up the esophagus.
The common solution is to take antacids of various types. Some of the stronger prescription drugs block acid production at a cellular level and some are buffers of the acids. These can give relief but are not good long term solutions as they do not address the root cause of the problem. Did you know that one major side effect of long-term acid blocker use is osteoporosis?!?!
Acid reflux can be corrected relatively easily in most cases, so there is no need to suffer or treat the symptoms only with drugs that have side effects.
Instead of looking at the problem of acid reflux as too much acid, look at it as digestion out of whack.
There are several simple solutions.
One is to avoid the offending foods. Many people find relief staying away from wheat and dairy. If you have acid reflux and have not tried this you will likely be surprised at the difference it will make (Debra doesn't eat wheat because she prefers to not have heartburn). The other food group to avoid is the nightshades which include tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and all peppers except black pepper.
Another solution is to take a digestive enzyme to assist in completely digesting your food. Take an enzyme with your meal and chew your food well to begin the digestive process in your mouth.
Also, take an effective probiotic to assist in completely digesting your food. Our intestines need certain “beneficial bacteria” in order to function. But these bacteria are continuously assaulted by toxic chemicals in all kinds of foods and beverages that destroy them. Chloronated water, pesticides on foods, and various food additives can all destroy beneficial intestinal bacteria, as well as antibiotics, refined foods, and excessive sugar. Virtually everyone needs to rejuvenate their intestinal track to be full of the hardworking digestive bacteria that nature intended.
As we've mentioned before, having a properly functioning digestive system is also vital to the elimination of toxic chemicals as they come down the track from your liver. When your intestinal tract doesn't move, toxic chemicals en route to elimination get reabsorbed into your body instead of being removed.
We recommend Theralac and Enzalase as effective supplements to assist in helping your body digest your food completely so you can get the most benefit from the food that you eat, end acid reflux, and keep the intestinal part of your body's detoxification system running smoothly.
