Why Detox

The word “detox” is used to mean a lot of different things. It can mean going to do a program where drugs or alcohol is removed from the body, or it can mean doing various cleanses that remove buildup of biological wastes. On this website, we are very specifically talking about various methods to remove toxic chemicals from your body that can make you sick.

The Importance of Detox

Each of our bodies has its own detoxification system, made up of the liver and intestines (which work together), kidneys, lungs, and skin.  These work continuously every day to process and remove toxic chemicals from your body. Read more about your body’s detox system in this excerpt from Toxic Free… The problem, however, is there is a huge amount of toxic chemicals in the world today—more than our bodies were designed by Nature to process. We are exposed to them in consumer products, in our homes, and in the environment. There is such a volume of chemicals that everyone on the planet today has these chemicals in their bodies. Everyone. Including you and your loved ones. This overload of toxic chemicals—stored in our fat, bones, glands, organs, and other parts of our bodies—is called “body burden,” and it is now being monitored by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). And, exposure to toxic chemicals is now associated with every symptom and illness.

Detox Strategies

There are two basic strategies for removing toxic chemicals from your body:

1. to strengthen and support your body’s detox organs—liver, intestines, kidneys, lungs, and skin—so they can better do their job of removing toxic chemicals, and

2. to mechanically remove toxic chemicals from your body separate from your body’s detoxication system.

It’s a good idea to do both.
