Meiling Skincare

I love this soap for a number of reasons. It’s made with certified organic ingredients, each soap has a skincare benefit, the soap is made by a husband who wanted to make a soap that his wife would love for him to use, and it’s just an exceptional soap to use. I’ve tried a lot of handmade soaps and this one really stands out. It’s a a heavy, slightly oversized bar with a delicate natural fragrance from certified organic essential oils (unscented is also available), and it rinses very clean. I’m very happy with this soap.

Light Stone Organic Soap

Hand-crafted organic soaps, creams, and perfumes made with the best organic or wild-crafted pure essential oils for scent and certified organic oils. Soaps are made with the cold-press method that retains the natural glycerin. “Light Stone was created 21 years ago after a long and unproductive search for pure and natural skin care products. The products that I found either contained synthetic, harmful ingredients, or they were very poor in quality. So I began the on-going process of education, trial and error and long days of study about the process of soap making. Then came the study of the tremendous effects of essential oils (better known as aromatherapy) on the body and the mind. I think that we have combined our years of study, research and experimentation to create truly exceptional products. We have always used only the highest quality ingredients and we have always created our products with great consideration for the body, mind, spirit and the environment.”

Sinfully Wholesome

I found this website because a reader wrote and said, “There are only four ingredients in this soap. I think that’s the smallest number of ingredients I’ve ever seen in a soap. This soap was used by Cleopatra. I think it may be in a class of it’s own.” The website says “Beyond organic natural skin care…wildcrafted soaps and oils are 100% natural and handcrafted from wild and/or organic fruits and their precious oils.” I have to say that the ingredients used to make these products are among the purest and most extravagant I’ve seen…Nepalese soap nuts, cold pressed oils to retain micronutrients, natural spring water…even the wrapping is wildcrafted handmade lokta paper to preserve the potency of the precious oils. All soaps can be used head to toe, for bathing, shampoo, and shaving.

Prima Natural

A unique handmade, gentle, chemical-free soap, that leaves your skin “effectively cleansed yet still soft and resilient…without pore clogging residue, sticky lotion or heat retaining oils.” Whole, raw goat milk and raw honey are combined in a special way to retain the vital vitamins, minerals and enzymes that make the difference. The unique process incorporates each ingredient slowly and carefully to enhance and promote the cleansing and nourishing properties. This produces an incredibly dense, gentle yet effective soap. Your skin is the largest organ of your body. Keeping it effectively clean and free of residue allows it to absorb essential needs from the air (oxygen), the sun (vitamin D) and the world around you. Also, important is the ability to excrete toxins and produce cooling moisture. Prima Natural™ soap respects and preserves these vital functions. Skin should not be masked with residual oils, lotions, creams or chemicals. Really clean, nourished skin does not require any of these. For a true natural clean and the health of your skin and your body:  eat well, drink plenty of water and cleanse with effective yet gentle Prima Natural™ soap.

Shea Butter, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Palm Oil (sustainable) and Coconut oil are just a few of the rich oils used to create this luxurious line of soap. Swanson Soapworks

I found this soapmaker at my local farmer’s market and was immediately drawn by the artistry of the simle swirls on the edge of each soap bar–akin to the swirl of frosting on top of a cake. Then I learned they make their soaps with a vegetable-based blend of water, olive oil, sustainably produced coconut oil, sustainably produced palm oil, vegetable shortening, sodium hydroxide (lye), essential oils (if scented), clays (if added) & spices. They make our bars in small batches using the traditional “stir the kettle” cold press method and use only pure essential oils, natural clays & powders, herbs from their garden and filtered water. I bought a bar, of course: Spicy Peppermint with Green Tea. Other scented varieties are more citrus and herbal than floral, also unscented.

Baltimore Soaps and More

Truly unscented soaps, butters, scrubs, and balms, handmade by a woman who understands the meaning of the word. “I developed MCS in 2005 and now make unscented natural soaps from scratch. I don’t use any dyes or anything artificial. Body butters, lip balms, and bath teas too – all made without added fragrances in my scent free, smoke free, pesticide free home. Please warn MCS folks not to purchase handmade soaps from soapmakers who use essential oils or fragrance oils because their hands, molds, storage areas, packaging, etc. will all be fragrance contaminated. Although I add a variety of botanicals for beauty, variety, and skin loving properties, the lye process zaps 99% of the scent of anything I add (I note exceptions in my write-ups) and so most smell simply like a fresh bar of soap. I can no longer work outside of the home due to my MCS and so purchasing my soaps helps support my family.”

"Celebrate the wonders of the plant world and give something back." Handmade, vegetable based soaps that "do not contain artificial colorants, fragrances or preservatives, are scented using pure essential oils and colored with natural herbs and herbal teas. Plantopia's soap labels are printed with soy ink and made with 100% post consumer fiber. The same is true for our gift boxes. The decision to obtain eco-friendly packaging was an expensive decision for a small start up organization…made in a desire to hold true to our own beliefs. If you buy three soaps, they will make a donation to plant a tree through the Trees Across America Campaign, sponsored and supported by Earth Day Network and American Forests' Global ReLeaf Program. Soaps are available unscented or with simple, lovely additions, like orange blossom honey that contains real orange blossom honey and is colored with the tea brewed from organic calendula petals. An unusual item is their Sea Soap, which lathers easily in salt water.

"100% Pure handmade Olive oil soap. No Additives. No Preservatives. No Chemicals. No testing on animals. No Animal products. Your Skin will notice the difference…available unscented and in many unique blends, using only pure and natural herbs, plant extracts and oils…We treat soap making as an art. We are always experimenting with different colors and techniques to keep our soap the finest in the world. As a result the color, texture and aroma will differ from batch to batch. Its all part of the charm." I found this little shop in a village just up the coast from where I live in Florida. They have no labels on the soaps–their name and the price is stamped into the soap! In the shop, the irregular hand-cut pieces sit out in open baskets. They don't give you a bag unless you ask for one. Their blends are unusual and absolutely wonderful–like oatmeal and lavender, vanilla and mint, ginger and grapefruit. Ask them what they have when you are ready to order, as I noticed not all of the blends in the store were on their website.
