DLDRP-logo-formal-2x2-2Debra Lynn Dadd Recomended Products reviews the materials used to make a specific product and recommends those products that are unlikely to cause harm to the consumer under normal use. Debra writes a Letter of Recommendation and Materials Review for the product(s) reviewed, and grants to the manufacturer  the right to display the Debra Lynn Dadd Recommended Product logo. All Product Recommendations granted, including the Letters of Recommendation and Materials Reviews  are available to the public to read on this website.

How can you tell if a product is safe to use or toxic?

You could look on the label or go to the website to find out the ingredients, but many times ingredients are not given.

If you had the ingredients, you could search for the health effects, but you might not have the training to understand how to read a Safety Data Sheet or a scientific study, and you may not even know where to look.

And you would need to do this for every product.

Seals and certifications can be of help, but usually just tell you what’s not in the product, and don’t tell you what is.

I created Debra Lynn Dadd Recommended Products to help consumers find out

  1.  the materials used to make products
  2. the health effects of those materials

so consumers have the information they need—in an easy-to-read and understand form—to make wise choices that protect their health.

I review ALL the materials used to make a product, the company philosophy and policies, and any certifications, to verify that the product is, in fact, unlikely to cause harm to the user under normal use.

And then I write a Product Recommendation that include a  Letter of Recommendation and Materials Review, which I give to the manufacturer along with a license to use the Product Recommendation and the Debra Lynn Dadd Recommended Product logo for a period of one year. At the end of the year, they can renew, provided that the product still qualifies.

I am paid a fee to review the materials, write the Materials Review and license use of the logo. But my Recommendation cannot be bought. I give you my promise that I will issue Recommendations only to products that meet my very high standards.

As far as I know this has never been done before. My hope is that it will set a new standard for how product information is presented, which will ultimately benefit all concerned.

CONSUMERS—GET A “QUICKIE” ANALYSIS OF ANY PRODUCT

I can give you a quick analysis of any product in a 15 minute phone consultation.

I can tell you about toxics that might not be on the label, read Safety Data Sheets, and bring my 30+ years of experience to help you determine if any product is toxic or not.

Give me a call and get an instant answer about any product you are unsure about.

Millions of consumers buy products every day in a marketplace that is a minefield of toxic chemicals that can cause harm to every part of the body. Many consumers are increasingly looking for products that do no harm.

The way consumers generally determine if a product is safe or potentially harmful is by

  • reading labels and websites, and talking to customer service representatives, to find out what materials are used to make the products.
  • doing research to find out if the materials are safe or harmful.

This is easier said than done.

Insufficient regulation, inconsistent labeling, and lack of understanding of toxics make the process difficult and confusing for most consumers.

And most retailers don’t have sufficient information from manufacturers to answer consumer’s questions.

I created Debra Lynn Dadd Recommended Products to help consumers find out

  1.  the materials used to make products
  2. the health effects of these materials

so consumers have the information they need—in an easy-to-read and understand form—to make wise choices that protect their health.

I review ALL the materials used to make a product, the company philosophy and policies, and any certifications, to verify that the product is, in fact, unlikely to cause harm to the user under normal use.

I can help you collect, organize, analyze, and communicate information about your product ingredients and their health effects to potential customers who are looking for it.

It’s different from a seal of approval or certification because it discloses the actual materials used to make the product so consumers can evaluate the product for themselves.

It’s different from a Safety Data Sheet because it’s for products that have no toxic ingredients to report.

Debra Lynn Dadd Recommended Products is available for all types of products in all product categories.

If you would like to find out more about the process and fees, and whether or not your products qualify, please contact me by using my Contact Page.

Our #1 Health Problem

Toxic chemicals in consumer products are a problem. In fact, they may be our number one health problem today.

Toxic chemical exposures are continuous in homes and offices today, unless we specifically choose products that are unlikely to do harm. If we are exposed—through breathing, eating and drinking, and through the skin—to more chemicals than our bodies can process, they build up inside our bodies into what is called “body burden.” Not only are we exposed to these toxic chcemicals day in and day out, but we are carrying them around in our bodies too! Day by day these chemicals of concern are undermining our health, and work against any actions we take to improve health.

The solution is to properly identify consumer products that are unlikely to lead to illness or injury under normal use—those made from materials that do not cause harm—and make them known to consumers.

I created Debra Lynn Dadd Recommended Products for two reasons:

  1. to give consumers the information I think is important for them to have about a product in order to choose products that contribute to good health
  2. as a means to help manufacturers communicate with consumers about their guiding principles and materials, so consumers can choose safer products with confidence.

I would like my Product Recommendations to be a model and set a standard for good communication about products. In order to make good choices, consumers need complete and accurate information.

My Work

past-book-covers-7

I wrote the first book on toxic chemicals in consumer products and safe alternatives in 1984, and my subsequent books on the subject have been continuously in print since.

From the beginning, the whole point of my work has been to find, use, and recommend everyday consumer products that do not contain toxic chemicals.

I am a consumer advocate. I am not a chemist, but I have studied chemistry. I am not a toxicologist, but I have studied toxicology. I am not a doctor, but I have studied how toxic chemicals can affect the body and what contributes to health. And I have studied all these subjects and more within the context of how they relate to our choice of consumer products.

Debra Lynn Dadd Recommended Products makes it easy for consumers to choose the least toxic products by gathering data from manufacturers and their promotional materials and comparing them against my own personal “toxic free” standard]=link to Standard page.

My Background

I first became interested in toxics in consumer products in 1978, when an immune system breakdown caused my body to be sensitive to all petroleum-based manmade chemicals.

It just made sense to me that if these chemicals were making my body sick, I should find out what these toxic chemicals are and where I was being exposed to them in consumer products in my home.

I spent my days in medical libraries and poison control centers, studying health effects of chemicals and piecing data together about where these chemicals were found in consumer products.

Eliminating these chemicals from my home was stunningly successful. When I stopped wearing perfume, I no longer had headaches. When I removed the permanent-press polyester-cotton sheets and pillowcases that were emitting formaldehyde from my bed, my insomnia disappeared. One by one my symptoms vanished as I found the right chemical exposure and removed it.

The association between toxic chemicals in everyday products and common symptoms and illnesses was so clear to me, that I decided to write a book to let others know that chemicals in common consumer products could be affecting their health. This self-published book turned into the first published book on the subject in 1984. Nontoxic & Natural was published by a small California publisher. Updated books have been continuously in print since, and are now published by Penguin, the largest publisher in the world.
